12/6/2023 0 Comments Visual studio code now m1 macs![]() Over the next couple of weeks I’ll be working to integrate the VSCode test explorer to provide a similar test experience to Xcode (run individual tests or classes of tests from the UI) and I’m sure there will be many feature requests and bugs to fix! Please create an issue on the GitHub repo or post on the #vscode-swift channel on Slack. It works similar to the full-version, available on Windows - with a few draw-backs, and it will allow to write programs, as well as run and test them right on your Mac. If you’d like to use a more industry standard IDE, like Eclipse, directly on your Mac, you can do that. We hope that lots of people will try it out and get involved! Future Aims Microsoft has released Visual Studio Code 2017. Please note that this is a 0.1.0 release so it is not feature complete and there will be bugs that need to be fixed. It would have been awesome to integrate them but proved too difficult in the end with differing aims. Before on x86 based macs, I used the Windows version of vstudio on mac by using a virtual machine. Is visual studio for mac the only ide that supports m1 macs atm I tried the rider preview for m1 macs and vstudio for mac 2022 preview and both are pretty much not close to being ready. It would be remiss not to mention the extensions that have inspired this work, especially the Maintained Swift Development Environment. Development using dotnet using the M1 macbook is horrendous. The other big addition is virtual TPM chip support for Windows 10 and 11 virtual machines, facilitating features like BitLocker and Secure Boot. As is customary with these annual updates, the new version of Parallels Desktop will be able to run on Monterey host machines or run Monterey in virtual machines. Don’t forget MontereyĪlso, support for this year's new version of macOS, Monterey, has been added. There are other improvements to Coherence, too, like Windows shutdown and sign-in screens that are presented in a way that feels more native and natural within macOS. For example, you can now drag and drop content between apps running under macOS and those running in Windows while using Parallels in Coherence mode. There are other added features and quality of life improvements, too. Also, both Intel and ARM Macs will see up to sixfold-better OpenGL performance with Windows virtual machines. The February 2021 release of Visual Studio Code brings several new features to Microsoft’s modern code editor, key among support for M1-based Macs. In particular, DirectX 11 performance is getting a boost (Parallels says it's 28 percent faster). In any case, Parallels is claiming significantly improved performance on M1 Macs compared to last year's release, which was the first to add support for said Macs.
